Some survivors of trafficking and modern slavery can access accommodation and support from the Home Office. This support is provided to safeguard them from destitution and the risk of further exploitation.
A person may be able to access this support when they have been referred into the National Referral Mechanism (NRM) and they have received a positive reasonable grounds (RG) decision acknowledging that they may be a victim of trafficking or modern slavery.
A person can be referred into the NRM via a First Responder. Organisations who are First Responders include local authorities, police, Border Force, and some voluntary sector organisations.
This process refers to accessing the NRM in England and Wales. For the process in Scotland and Northern Ireland, please refer to the government guidance.
