Support options for people with no recourse to public funds who are experiencing domestic abuse

Overview

An introductory course to develop your knowledge to identify correct signposting options and referral routes for a person who is experiencing domestic abuse and is unable to access benefits and housing due to their immigration status. 

Course Objectives

• To understand how immigration status affects entitlement to services
• To identify when a council or the Home Office may be required to provide housing and financial support to an adult or family with no recourse to public funds
• To identify options to prevent or resolve homelessness and to know where to obtain further support

• How to assist a person with no recourse to public funds who is experiencing domestic abuse and is at risk of homelessness
• When families and adults can be provided with accommodation and financial support by their council

• Support options for adults who do not have social care needs
• How to identify an appropriate long-term pathway out of destitution and help the person to achieve this 
  
  

Who it's for

This introductory course is for local authority and other professionals who need to understand what support options a person with no recourse to public funds may have when they are experiencing domestic abuse or have recently fled from their abuser. 

No prior knowledge is required. This course is suitable for practitioners new to this area of work or who want to refresh their knowledge.  

This course covers the social care, health, and children’s legislation that applies in England. If you work in Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland, we can deliver a course that specifically covers the devolved legislation. How the course is delivered

This course is delivered in one session over MS Teams using a combination of trainer presentation, case studies, and group discussion. Participants will need access to their own device and are encouraged to contribute via the chat or speaker functions.
