SCOTLAND - Introduction to support options for people with no recourse to public funds

Overview

Develop your knowledge to identify correct signposting options or referral routes for a person who is at risk of homelessness when they are unable to access benefits and housing due to their immigration status. Please note this course is tailored to those in Scotland and focuses on Scottish legislation.

This is an introductory course for workers in Scotland who have little or no prior knowledge of the support options available for people with no recourse to public funds and who may need to make referrals to social services.

Course outline

• Overview of the UK immigration system and how immigration status affects entitlements to services
• Social services' support provided under section 22 of the Children (Scotland) Act 1995 to families and sections 12 or 13A of the Social Work (Scotland) Act 1995 to an adult in need
• Making referrals into social services for accommodation and financial support
• Support for asylum seekers and victims of modern slavery
• Good practice, and signposting information for people with no recourse to public funds and officers who may need to make referrals into social services
